Social media marketing has recently been one of the trends in marketing as the use of social media sites has prevalence in society. While many organisations have decided to use social networking sites as a way to communicate and reach out to their customers, not many have done so to their benefit. Giapo, the gelato store on Queen Street, would probably be one of the few in New Zealand to have used social media effectively so as to benefit them. Giapo social media presence is strong, with a twitter, blog and, Facebook they can connect to their customers closely and build a strong following and sense of community. Social media has leveraged Giapo in the market making them stand out and gain a strong customer loyalty base. Their use of social media is a great example of how to effectively use social media. At the same time it highlights how the advancement of technology has enabled some organisations to adapt to current trends consequently effectively reaching out to their target.

I do find it odd that an Italian ice-cream shop would need such a technologically-centred marketing strategy. Personally I found that by sitting outside with their biggest ice-cream in hand (a $16 monster) the line got even longer. People are cheap and effective marketing.
